Sandia sponsors Terrorism Research Center Conference

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Sandia National Laboratories is cosponsoring the 2008 Terrorism Research Center Conference, “Terrorism: Training, Threats, Tactics and Technology” April 1-3 at the Albuquerque Marriott Hotel, 2101 Louisiana Blvd. N.E.

Sponsored by Sandia’s Homeland Security & Defense Organization and the Security Systems and Technology Center, this conference is intended to give participants an opportunity to explore some of the challenges and gain a comprehensive understanding of issues related to terrorism.

Sandia is a National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) laboratory.

Military, law enforcement, intelligence, security professionals, first responders, emergency managers, government leaders and the academic community are all invited to attend. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For the last 10 years, the Terrorism Research Center has gathered nationally renowned experts to explore terrorism, emerging threats, training, tactics and technology topics to assist those tasked with dealing with such issues.

Founded in 1996, the Terrorism Research Center (TRC) is an independent institute dedicated to the research of terrorism, information warfare and security, critical infrastructure protection, homeland security and other issues of low-intensity political violence.

Al Romig, Sandia senior vice president and deputy laboratories director of Integrated Technologies and Systems, will deliver the keynote address about terrorism threats and the role of technology.

Other speakers include Walter Purdy, TRC vice president of training and special projects; Brad Garrett, retired FBI agent; Christopher Steinitz, TRC Arabic media linguist; Dave Walters British army Colonel (ret.), Brian Michael Jenkins the RAND Corporation; Kara Driggers, analyst of Total Intelligence Solution; Peter Bergen, author and CNN commentator; Stephen Ulph, senior fellow of the Jamestown Foundation; Richard Forno, cofounder of Outbreak Security LLC; Robert J. Bunker, CEO of Counter-OPFOR Corporation and Matthew Begert, project coordinator of NLETC-West.
