ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Three students from Albuquerque’s traditional public high schools earned $2,000 U.S. Savings bonds in the fourth annual scholastic “It’s the Write Thing to Do” essay contest.
Sandia National Laboratories and Lockheed Martin sponsor the program as part of their commitment to promoting math, science and engineering education and encouraging students to consider careers in those areas.
Each student selected an essay question from topics as complex as biochemical research, global water challenges, and super alloy materials. Sandia technical employees wrote the questions and also judged the 750-word essays.
The winning students are Laura Cutler from Eldorado High School, Melanie Peterson from Cibola High School, and Haochen Hong from La Cueva High School.
