LIVERMORE, Calif. — Bob Carling, director of Sandia National Laboratories’ Transportation Energy Center in California, will give a plenary presentation on May 31 at 10 a.m. local time during the 11thInternational Conference on Present and Future Engines for Automobiles. The conference is scheduled to run May 30-June 3 in Shanghai, China.
Carling’s presentation will center on major public-private initiatives designed to accelerate combustion science’s role in future transportation technologies and concept engines.
“Creating a global energy future that balances climate, security and sustainability requires unprecedented international cooperation,” said Carling. “New energy solutions, particularly in the transportation sector, will depend on a concerted effort and a new consensus that has yet to emerge.” Sandia’s Hub for Innovation in the Transportation Energy Community, or HITEC, aims to accelerate innovation in low-carbon transportation through domestic and international partnerships.
The conference will include presentations on current and future automotive powertrain technologies, emission measurement and control and new concept engines. Senior engineers, research managers from the automotive industry and members of the academic community are expected to attend the biennial event, which is restricted to 100 participants from Asia, Europe and the United States.
As part of his duties at Sandia, Carling also leads the Labs’ Combustion Research Facility.
