ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Registration is open for the 4th International Conference on the Integration of Renewable and Distributed Energy Resources, the premier event for technical discussion of electric integration of new energy resources.

Jointly sponsored by Sandia National Laboratories, the U.S. Department of Energy, Natural Resources Canada, Public Service Company of New Mexico, the Solar Electric Power Association and Electric Power Research Institute, the event will provide a forum for researchers and practitioners in the fields of renewable energy and distributed energy resources (DER) to come together and share their knowledge about the technical, market and regulatory challenges faced when integrating renewable and alternative energy sources into the grid.

Participants will discuss issues and barriers and identify needed research and potential solutions for pressing global energy distribution problems.

The growth of decentralized generation, liberalized markets, modern power electronics and the introduction of advanced integrated circuit technologies are leading to a dramatic change in the management and operation of electricity grids worldwide. The 2010 conference program will include discussion and reviews of regional DER programs, as well as reports on recent research and development results from academia, utilities and technology manufacturers — including innovative research in advanced concepts and approaches to DER.

The event will also include workshops, tutorials, and tours as well as a poster session that will emphasize new methods, unique research findings and reports of actual deployment experience. Participants also will have the opportunity to tour Sandia renewable energy facilities including the Renewable Energy & Microelectronics Laboratory Facilities, the National Solar-Thermal Test Facilities (also called the Solar Tower), the Microsystems and Engineering Sciences Applications Fabrication Facilities (MESAFab), and the Distributed energy Technologies Laboratory (DETL).

Registration The conference runs from December 6-10 at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque. Participants can register on the conference website through Nov. 29. Media interesting in attend the event should contact Stephanie Holinka at (505) 284-9227 or sholin@sandia.gov by 9:00 a.m. on Dec. 3 to arrange for credentials.
