AAAS honors three Sandia researchers, one Sandia writer

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M —Three Sandia National Laboratories researchers and one writer will receive the title of Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science during the annual AAAS meeting in February, to be held in Boston. The award is for efforts toward advancing science applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished.

The Sandia awardees are:

Julia HsuJulia Hsu, for significant research on the structure and properties of electronic materials and for leadership in the materials physics community.
Gretchen JordanGretchen Jordan, for measuring performance and diversity within organizational structures and developing innovative methods for assessing the effectiveness of research programs.
Wilhelm GausterWilhelm Gauster (retired), for outstanding contributions and leadership in the advancement of fusion energy science and technology and defense sciences.
Nigel HeyNigel Hey (retired), for meritorious service in the communication of science through four decades of sustained accomplishment in public affairs, science writing, editing and publishing.

Sandia is a National Nuclear Security Administration laboratory.

The honorees will be presented with an official certificate and a pin, continuing a tradition that began with the first fellows nominated in 1874.

AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society. Its publication, Science, has an audience of more than one million readers.
