EESAT 2007 conference scheduled for September

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sandia National Laboratories, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the Electricity Storage Association announced today that they are co-sponsors of EESAT 2007, the sixth biennial conference on Electrical Energy Storage Systems Applications and Technologies, to be held at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., Sept. 23 – 26, 2007.

Co-chaired by Dr. Imre Gyuk, US DOE; Jim McDowall, ESA; and John Boyes, Sandia, EESAT 2007 will present technical and economic papers from international sources that cover topics on specific electrical energy storage technologies and applications, with an emphasis on the latest technological developments for the use of electricity storage in the power industry.

Transmission congestion, power shortages, and power quality and unreliability experienced worldwide over the past few years have raised fears that electricity supply systems will not be able to continue providing the level of reliability that customers expect.

Because energy storage, in combination with other technologies, can support stressed electricity systems and provide the reliability required by high tech industry, the prospects for the future of energy storage systems continue to increase rapidly.

Following the successes of the first four EESAT conferences, EESAT 2007 will address a wide range of electrical energy technologies, including conventional and advanced battery energy storage, electro-chemical capacitors, supercomputing magnetic energy storage, flywheels, compressed air systems (CAES), and pumped hydro.

Electricity storage technologies are increasing in their scope and performance, bringing commercial and technical benefits to the power industry and the consumer. EESAT 2007 offers presentations, papers, and discussions to the attendees on a wide variety of storage technologies, with emphasis on technical and economic evaluation of specific applications and the latest information on commercial developments. 

Scheduled sessions for EESAT 2007 include Economic, Policy and Environmental Benefits of Storage, Flywheel Systems, CAES, Power Electronics, Technology Advances, Super Capacitor Development and Applications, Storage with Renewables and Distributed Generation, and Large System Applications.

In addition to the technical presentations, a conference dinner for all attendees and their guests will be part of the program.
