Sandia awards more than $200,000 to community development programs

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Lockheed Martin Corporation on behalf of Sandia National Laboratories is pleased to award more than $200,000 in grants to programs benefitting the Middle Rio Grande area in the annual Community Development Grant Program.

More than 60 percent of the funds are focused on educational programs to encourage the development of youth in the community. Lockheed Martin has donated more than $18.5 million to the community since 1993.

Programs funded included work with literacy, robotics competitions, science bowls, school music, and health and human service needs such as counseling. Sandia also donated $25,000 to the Roadrunner Food Bank.

Sandia also supports Operation Homefront, which provides emergency assistance to New Mexico military families and helps the wounded and their families to adjust to life once they return home.

“We take our role as corporate citizen and valued partner in our community seriously,” says Public Relations & Communications Director Mike DeWitte. “We are pleased to be able to contribute to those in need.”
