Fourth Annual Homeland Security Conference to be held in Albuquerque this week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The fourth annual statewide Homeland Security Conference will be held Nov. 16-18 at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North (5151 San Francisco Rd. NE).

The gathering will feature nationally renowned experts talking about preparing for, preventing, and responding to the threat of a terrorist attack.

The conference is sponsored by Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico Tech, New Mexico Department of Public Safety’s Office of Emergency Management, and the Albuquerque Police Department.

Federal, state, local, and tribal personnel responsible for public safety will attend the conference. Attendees include those involved in law enforcement, emergency response, hospitals, corrections facilities, and the military.


A media availability featuring conference organizers and featured speaker Aaron Richman, a security consultant whose career has included Israeli counterterrorism work, including prevention of and response to suicide bombers (see bio below), will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 10:15 a.m. at the Marriott Pyramid. Various technology companies also will be on hand to demonstrate their homeland security products. Aaron Richman is an Israeli security consultant specializing in emergency planning and training for incidents involving weapons of mass destruction. After serving military tours in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and the West Bank, Mr. Richman served as an undercover officer in the Israeli national drug unit and later in a counter terror unit designed to combat suicide bombings in Israel.
