ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The U.S. Department of Energy, Sandia National Laboratories, and the Electricity Storage Association announced today they are sponsors of EESAT 2005, the fifth biennial conference on Electrical Energy Storage Systems Applications and Technologies, to be held at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., Oct. 17-19, 2005.
EESAT 2005 will present technical and economic papers from international sources that cover topics on specific electrical energy storage technologies and applications, with an emphasis on the latest commercial developments for the use of electricity storage in the power industry.
Transmission congestion, power shortages, and power quality and reliability experienced worldwide over the past few years have raised fears that electricity supply systems will not be able to continue providing the level of reliability that customers expect.
Because energy storage, in combination with other technologies, can support stressed electricity systems and provide the reliability required by high tech industry, the prospects for the future of energy storage systems continue to increase rapidly.
Following the successes of the first three EESAT conferences, EESAT 2005 will address a wide range of electrical energy technologies, including conventional and advanced battery energy storage, electro-chemical capacitors, SMES, flywheels, CAES, and pumped hydro.
Electricity storage technologies are increasing in their scope and performance, bringing commercial and technical benefits to the power industry and the consumer. EESAT 2005 offers presentations, papers, and discussions to the attendees on a wide variety of storage technologies, with emphasis on technical and economic evaluation of specific applications and the latest information on commercial developments.
Scheduled sessions for EESAT 2005 include Storage with Distributed Generation, Flywheels Systems, Compressed Air Systems, Power Electronics, Technology Advances, Super Capacitor Development and Applications, Lithium Batteries, Lead Acid Battery Life Predictions, and Large Applications.
In addition to the technical presentations, a dinner for all attendees and guests is scheduled at The Basque Cultural Center, noted for its authentic menus of traditional Basque dining.
