Sandia and three University of Texas campuses to announce collaboration agreement

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The National Nuclear Security Administration’s Sandia National Laboratories and the University of Texas at Arlington, The University of Texas at Dallas, and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, all components of the University of Texas System, will announce a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for collaboration on research and other activities on Friday, March 19, in Dallas.

The event will execute the MOU regarding collaborative efforts in four research areas including nanotechnology, microtechnology, biotechnology, and engineering sciences. The agreement will stimulate sharing of professional and technical information about these areas of research at Sandia and will help stimulate training of engineers and scientists in institutions of higher education.

Details of the agreement will be announced at an official signing ceremony to be attended by U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Sandia National Laboratories Director C. Paul Robinson, U.T. System Chancellor Mark G. Yudof, and others.

Sandia administrators, scientists, and engineers are scheduled to attend, along with U. T. administrators and faculty, area venture capitalists, industry representatives, and other invited guests.

Here is a detailed schedule of events, all to be held on the 4th Floor of the Eugene McDermott Academic Administration Building, South Campus, U.T. Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (5323 Harry Hines Blvd.).

9:10-9:20 a.m.Media availability with Senator Hutchison — outside Tom and Lula Gooch Auditorium.
9:20-9:45 a.m.Remarks by officials and signing ceremony — Tom and Lula Gooch Auditorium.
9:45-10 a.m.Media availability with Senator Hutchison, Sandia and U.T. officials, including the presidents of U.T. Southwestern, U.T. Dallas, and U.T. Arlington immediately following signing — Tom and Lula Gooch Auditorium.
10 a.m.-NoonExhibits and informal discussions among Sandia and U.T. researchers and officials. (Sandia researchers will display posters and other exhibits concerning the work at the laboratory.) — Foyer of the Tom and Lula Gooch Auditorium.
