ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Sandia National Laboratories’ impact on the State of New Mexico will be the focus of the Labs’ first-ever Economic Impact Summit scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Albuquerque Convention Center, East Building, San Miguel Room.

The purpose of the summit is to enhance the partnership between Sandia and the greater Albuquerque business and civic communities through public awareness and dialogue regarding the effect Sandia has on the New Mexico economy, which is believed to be about three times the total amount it spends on purchases and salaries. The afternoon event will be highlighted by the release of the 2008 Sandia Economic Impact on the State of New Mexico brochure.

About 150 business, education and civic leaders along with elected and government officials, and representatives from Sandia are expected to attend.

The event begins with networking from 1-1:30 p.m., followed by welcome by Matthew J. O’Brien, Sandia’s chief financial officer and vice president of business operations. Summit host is Carol Yarnall, director of Sandia’s Supply Chain Management Center. As part of the summit, a panel will review the various aspects of the brochure. Panelists and topics include:
