ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Media will have the opportunity to learn about what’s happening in the area of solar energy Thursday, July 17, during a media availability with Alexander (Andy) Karsner, assistant secretary for DOE’s (Department of Energy) Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, at 3 p.m. at Sandia’s National Solar Thermal Test Facility on the Kirtland Air Force Base.

Media planning on attending the 3 p.m., July 17 event need to call Iris Aboytes at (505) 844-2282 by 10 a.m. Thursday. Arrangements will be made to escort them to the National Solar Tower Thermal Test Facility.

This will be an opportunity for media to obtain a better understanding about the future of solar energy, both nationally and locally. The backdrop will be the solar tower and mirrored arrays, prototype six-dish model power plant, and solar furnace. In this era of soaring energy costs, solar energy is a growing alternative energy source.

Besides Karsner, local industry executives from Advent Solar, Arch Ventures, EMCORE, Mesa del Sol, Stirling Energy Systems, and New Mexico State University will be participating in the discussion.
