ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Sandia engineer Cliff Ho has won Discover magazine’s “The Future of Energy in 2 Minutes or Less” contest for his self-created “Solar energy is H.O.T.”

Nathaniel Greene, director of Renewable Energy Policy at NRDC and judge for Discover’s contest says on Discover’s website that “I love [Cliff’s] concrete and clear presentation. I thought it did a good job of laying out the different ways we can use solar energy.”

In addition to being selected by the judge, Ho’s video received 57 percent of the votes in the viewer’s choice poll.

Prizes in the contest include an extreme makeover, green home style, which includes a full home energy audit as well as an energy-saving suite of gadgets and devices worth more than $2,000.

Cliff plans to donate the prizes to the new Georgia O’Keeffe Elementary School in Albuquerque, which is currently under construction and should be completed by 2010, on behalf of his two oldest daughters who attend school there (and a third who will be attending as a kindergartner in 2010).
